Dietitian vs. Nutritionist: What is the Difference?
- Dietitians are Regulated Professionals: Registered Dietitians (RDs) are protected, regulated health care professionals registered with the College of Dietitians of Ontario. They must hold a specialized Bachelor's degree in food and nutrition, complete rigorous practical residency training, and pass a national registration exam.
- The Term "Nutritionist" is Unregulated: In most provinces, "nutritionist" is not a protected title. Educational backgrounds can vary significantly as there are no standard minimum regulatory requirements.
